European 50th Celebration – Brussels 27-29 November 2015

Dear Alumni & Friends of Up with People

Greetings from Brussels! We hope you have had a great summer full of rest, relaxation and family fun. For

those of you who were in Orlando, we trust you have recovered from that historic event, which was attended

by over 3000 alumni and friends of Up with People, and created incredible energy to kick-off the next 50


As promised in our 8 June email regarding the Up with People European 50th Celebration in Brussels, we are

including further updates on the weekend’s events, as well as all of the appropriate links for you to be able to

customize your weekend, and register accordingly based on your personal plans.

We are pleased to let you know that to-date, 400+ tickets to Saturday night’s show ‘The Journey’ have been

sold, out of a capacity of 1600. Tickets to the pre-show reception and post-show party are also moving quickly.

Please make sure to reserve your show tickets as soon as possible, as the best seats are selling fast. We

have heard from many across Europe that they are indeed planning to be in Brussels in November, and we

expect all weekend events to be sold out. We will not be marketing to the general public. We want the “Up with

People Family” to be the priority for this once-in-a- lifetime opportunity.

The schedule has evolved since our June communication, and we have a couple of updates:

1. There will be a fun, interesting and relaxing “Welcome to Brussels” party on Friday evening, hosted

by members of the Up with People Belgian Alumni Association. The event will be held at the magical

La Maison des Brasseurs on Brussels’ most famous square, the Grand Place. This is a private event

for Up with People only, and the ticket price includes Belgian delicacies and drinks (see link below for

description and tickets). There are only 400 tickets available.

2. As mentioned briefly in the June email, on Saturday afternoon Dale Penny (President & CEO of Up

with People) will be hosting two 60 minute interactive forums at 2:00pm and 3:30pm at the Hilton

Grand Place. Dale, along with UWP Board members and Senior Management, will present Up with

People’s vision, and talk about our plans for the future. These forums are free, but space is limited to

200 for each session.

3. If you wish to attend one of the forums, please send an email to

confirming your presence. One email per individual/ couple/family. Please list the names of each

person attending in your email. Requests for more than five tickets per email may not be honored.

You will receive an email reply as your confirmation and entre to the event. Please print or have the

electronic reply, and bring it with you. When each session is full, the email address will automatically

inform you of this.

Saturday night’s 50th Anniversary show ‘The Journey’, performed by Cast B 2015, will commemorate the

many alumni, parents, host families and friends who have played a part of the last 50 years of UWP in Europe.

We will also be joined by special guests and dignitaries like Herman Van Rompuy (Former President of the

European Council), as well as members of the Belgian and the Dutch Royal families. The Cast will have been

in Brussels for the entire week prior working in six Brussels high schools with UWP’s Educational Program,

focusing on the theme of integration and understanding between dominant and minority populations. The

initiative is sponsored by the ENGIE Foundation.

We look forward to seeing you in Brussels to celebrate the past, and build-on the spirit, energy and

committment to the future of Up with People that was so apparent to everyone who was present in Orlando.

7:00pm Midnight: Welcome event hosted by the Belgian Alumni Association at the La Maison des

Brasseurs on the Grand Place.

Saturday, 28 November

2:00pm and 3:30pm: UWP Leadership Forum with Dale Penny and UWP Board members/Senior

Management. Venue: Hilton Grand Place conference room. This is a free event. Please see above for email

sign-up information.

6:00pm 7:30pm: Pre-show Reception with wine, food and welcome from Mr. Belk, distinguished guests, and

current and former staff. Venue: Center for Fine Arts.

8:00pm 10:15pm: ‘The Journey’, Up with People’s 50th Anniversary Show. Venue: Center for Fine Arts.

10:30pm 1:30am: Post-show Dance Party featuring The Up with People Survival Band. Music and all drinks

included. Venue: Center for Fine Arts.

Sunday, November 29th

Late morning: Brunch with friends, tour the city.
